Lunch ‘n’ Learn
WHAT IS IT?
This is a lunchtime activity that combines an opportunity for life skills learning and actually eating lunch with like-minded young adults with an intellectual disability. The “learn” is integrated into the activities that consist of planning, shopping, preparing and cleaning up after lunch..the “lunch” is enjoyed with fellow learners and members of the community.
WHEN IS IT?
Every weekday Monday through Friday except for statutory holidays. Certain Fridays are “Community Lunch” days where special guests from the local Junction neighbourhood are invited to join in and share lunch and conversation.
WHERE IS IT?
Lunch ‘n Learn is held at “Community Junction”, owned and operated by Community Living Toronto, located at the newly renovated space at 2934 Dundas Street West ((just west of Keele Street) in the vibrant, historical district of the Junction. Clean and modern preparation areas, equipment and kitchen facilities allow for full participation.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS?
Every weekday KEYS’ Lunch ‘n Learners arrive at the CLT Community Junction ready to connect, plan, learn and enjoy their lunch with about 6 like-minded folk. A KEYS’ Co-ordinator is on site to welcome and guide the participants in four keys areas every day. The four segments consist of :
- a welcome and connect;
- planning and creating;
- enjoying lunch;
- clean up and wrap up.
Certain Fridays are special: Several select members of the local community are delivered invitations to join KEYS’ folks for lunch. At this lunch, KEYS’ serves the lunches to all, including themselves, and share in the social interaction with local community partners.
