West Toronto KEYS to INclusion (“KEYS”) is a non-profit registered charity founded by a community of families in West Toronto to meet the needs of our young adults with intellectual disabilities, who had completed high school and needed meaningful opportunities for continued growth and inclusion in our neighbourhoods. KEYS was incorporated in 2009, and we began offering continued growth and development opportunities through our Lunch ‘n Learn Program, expanding with Community Contributors in September 2011.
KEYS is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors. The 2016-17 slate of Directors is:
- President: Hélène Paulyn-Murray
- Vice-President: Maryanne Bruni
- Secretary: Carol Layton
- Treasurer: Meredith Perren
- Director of Community Development: Amanda Salzberger
- Director at Large: Madeline Burghardt
- Communications Director: Kathy Flagler
KEYS operates out of the Community Junction (2934 Dundas St. W, Toronto) which is owned and operated by Community Living Toronto. We are most grateful to Community Living Toronto for the shared space agreement that allows us to use the Community Junction as our base.
In 2010, KEYS was awarded the Business, Community and Agency Award by the Toronto Chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children.
In 2012, was nominated for and received the Business, Community and Agency Award at the Provincial level. The award was presented at the annual conference of the Council for Exceptional children in Niagara falls on November 30. On March 1, 2013, two members of the Council for Exceptional Children attended the KEYS Community Lunch and presented the award to President Helene Paulyn-Murray, vice-President Maryanne Bruni, KEYS Coordinator Jenny Saundercook, and the KEYS participants.
